Progress and Bunnies

Hello there! Anyone still around? I feel like I haven't done a 'proper' post in so long that everyone has gotten bored and left! Well, hopefully, some progress photos and adorable bunnies will have you running back.

After 'one of those weeks' last week, I was expecting something to go very wrong with our friday sofa delivery. You know those weeks.... the weeks where you're just waiting for it to end because you're worried that there is still time for something else to go wrong? Anyway, thankfully, the sofa arrived safely and all that happened was I didn't have the proper change and had the pay the delivery guys an extra five bucks. I think I can live with that.

We had spent last week trying desperately to make some room for said couch because just a few weeks ago and up until recently, after our final 'stuff delivery' from Hubs' Mom's basement/garage, our living room looked something like this: (and by 'something like' I mean 'exactly like')

Terrifying, isn't it???  Can you see our desperate (and clearly futile) attempt at instilling order?  Those five colourful images framed by the dining room door.  They look ridiculous now that I seem them in this context but at the time, they were the only thing keeping me sane.

Slowly but surely the living room becamse livable once again.  After a few carloads of donations, a few of recyclables and garbage (have I seriously been carting around old grocery flyers for three years?) and quite a lot of trips down to the basement, the living room looks like this.....

Behold the most wonderfully comfy chaise I could have ever asked for!  From EQ3 and made in Canada!

And the new and long-awaited for sofa by Lind - also made in Canada!

As you can see, there is still a lot to do - that's why we call them progress shots!  For example, there is about 6 feet by 12 feet of empty white space above the sofa, which I now have to figure out what to do with.   Oh and remember my post about saying 'No' to beige?? Well, if you haven't noticed, besides the bookshelf my living room is VERY neutral - isn't irony wonderful?  In my search to create a wonderfully colourful and warm space, I have ended up with a neutral, white one.  We're slowly working in bits and pieces of colour here and there, but it's going to be a little bit before the whole space comes together.  But the progress is encouraging.

And I promised bunnies, didn't I?  Well,  I wouldn't want to disappoint!

Post I wish more people read....

Day 2 of the SITS Back to Blogging Competition is to post what I wish more people would have read.  This is a post from fairly early on and I don't think I was doing as good a job of promoting my blog at that point.

I wanted more people to pay attention to this post because this sofa is amazing.  Admit it.  You love it.  And don't you dare say "It looks like my grandmother's couch" - and if it does, she has fan-freaking-tastic taste.  Seriously!  It rocks.  PLUS, it perfectly matches the Thelma & Louise washer/dryer combo that is up for grabs in this competition sponsored by Standards of Excellence, Westar Kitchen & Bath, and Florida Builder Appliances. !! (See??).

To the dismay of my husband, the moment I have waited a year for, has finally arrived.  The day I get to find a place in our new home for this…

Introducing: the coolest couch in the history of couches, obtained for free and (besides a tear in one cushion & one broken spring) in incredible condition.

Take it in, folks… take it in.

 

You have to admit - she's an amazing piece of furniture.  The detail in the fabric and in the wood is beautiful and the survival of the piece is a testament to the quality of its workmanship.  Granted, it's not in everyone's taste, but picture it in a pattern or colour you love, and I dare you to resist.

Ps.  I lied... I don't actually have a place for it yet.  Due to the chaotic state of the living room, my beautiful sofa moves around from wall to wall, corner to corner, as everything get shuffled every three days or so.  At least it's in the right room (and not the garage)... baby steps.

Now, if you've actually read my posts (HA!) you'll know that I had to compromise on the sofa... I cried a little.  But, the beauty is still here and with the new couch on its way I am brainstorming ideas for what to do with my baby.  Because leaving her on the side of the road is NOT an option.

So far: 

- put her in the bedroom as a lounger- so NOT the colour scheme we are going for.

- put her in the kitchen - let's be honest, nothing matches in there anyway at the moment

- make a WOmen Den in the basement.  To my husband's dismay the basement is six feet tall.. he is 6'1 and I am 5'3 (almost).  Perfect for me, not so perfect for him.  I figure I can take over and make something super amazing down there (and much less creepy than it currently is).

Oh Compromise....

Yes, that word.  I love it and hate it at the same time.  I love it especially when it means I'm going to get something I want and Hubs is compromising.  This, however, was not the case this week.

It is a sad day for my beautiful blue sofa - it will have to find a new home.  I know, I am sad, too.  The truth is, it's not the most.... 'manly' sofa ever, and perhaps Hubs was just being nice when he said it's fine.   This is both our home, and I want him to feel just as much a factor in its out-fitting as I am.

Lately, it has been pretty stressful.  The sanding has come to a screeching, smelling, slightly burning halt.   This is what the upstairs still looks like.

I know, very little progress.  We have found that it is more than we can handle - especially given we both have full-time jobs.  If I were at home, I could definitely do it, but as awesome/stubborn as I am, it's too much for us right now.

Because of the state of the upstairs, this is the state of the downstairs:

Yes, we are still on the living room floor, two months into the renovations, our clothes are in crates and our patience wears every day.
